Nadal to Miss 6-8 Weeks with Grade 2 Lesion in Hip

A day after his difficult defeat to Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of the Australian Open, Rafael Nadal has given a report of his injury.

The Spaniard is going to miss approximately six to eight weeks, which means he will not play Dubai as scheduled, and could miss Indian Wells and Miami.

“I have carried out medical tests after the defeat yesterday,” Nadal wrote on Twitter. “The MRI shows a grade 2 lesion in the Iliacus Psoas of his left leg. Now it's sports rest and anti-inflammatory physiotherapy. Normal recovery time 6 to 8 weeks.”


The iliopsoas muscle is the major flexor of the joint. It's made up of three muscles: the iliacus, the psoas major, and the psoas minor. These are the muscles that work together to flex the hip, as well as stabilize it, and lower back.
