Andy Murray, who recently won a challenger title at Aix-En-Provence, has elected to call it quits on the clay season. The three-time Grand Slam champion has withdrawn from Roland-Garros, and aims to focus on resting, recovering and preparing for the upcoming grass court season.

Murray went 5-4 on clay this season across all levels, but did not win a single match at tour-level.

After his first-round loss at Rome to Fabio Fognini, the 2016 Roland-Garros runner-up admitted that he was unsure if he wanted to invest the time in going to Paris, when his best chances at doing something special would be at Wimbledon.

“I’ll need to have a chat with [my] team and see what the best thing to do is,” Murray told he UK Guardian. “It’s just what the right thing is to prioritize at this stage in my career. I trust my body now, but I’m aware that my best chance of having a deep run is more likely to happen at Wimbledon.”

Since speaking those words, Murray lost 6-3, 6-0 to Stan Wawrinka in the Bordeaux Challenger.

The Scot owns a 39-11 lifetime record in Paris. He is 60-12 at Wimbledon, with a pair of titles, in 2013 and 2016, to his name. The World No.42 still has a shot of getting seeded at the All England Club, if he can pick up some points early in the grass season.
